In 2022, PopSockets made the commitment to move away from using only plastic to design our accessories. We wanted to develop a memorable identity for our new material to show that this wasn’t going to be a one-time or special release.
Made from canola oil, castor beans, and cornstarch, PlantCore™ was our big step moving away from plastic and to a plant-based future.

When coming up with the name, I wanted it to encapsulate the vision, material, and something that would be instantly recognizable. When people see the name PlantCore™ for the first time, they have an idea of what it is—it’s made from plants, which means it’s environmentally friendly.

Customers toured through an idyllic grocery store where they could sample unreleased PlantCore™ accessories on their phone, enjoy plant-based catering, and learn about our vision of the future.
The food, the drinks, the accessories—everything was made from plant-based materials. Any of the props of design elements that couldn’t be plant-based, we used recycled materials.
Like with our other accessories, we wanted to show that our PlantCore™ MagSafe cases came with all of the features our fans have come to expect—along with new Airbag 10ft drop protection.

Fuel Your Phone Without The Footprint
By this time our MagSafe grips, wallets, and portable chargers were very popular. As opposed to our standard accessories, these magnetically snapped on and off your phone so you can swap between them easily.
It was important to let fans know that they wouldn’t have to sacrifice style and convenience to be environmentally friendly. A big part of the product launch was ensuring that MagSafe wouldn’t be going anywhere in our plant-based future.

We had the vision, the name, and the material—but we wanted to make a big splash to announce PlantCore™ to the world. Artists, fans, and the media were invited to a one night immersive experience at our pop-up shop: Plant Mart.
